1866โ1925
Helping to start the Republic of China and being called the Father of Modern China
Early Life
Sun Yat-sen was born in 1866 in a small village in southern China. When he was a child, China was facing many problems, and life was not easy for many families. Sun was curious and loved learning, which helped him dream about making things better.
As a teenager, Sun traveled to Hawaii to attend school. There, he learned new ideas about science, medicine, and how different countries were governed. These experiences opened his eyes and made him think deeply about how China could improve.
Learning and Big Ideas
Sun later studied medicine and became a doctor. Even though he cared about helping sick people, he felt that helping his whole country was even more important. He believed China needed change so people could live happier and safer lives.
Sun shared his ideas with others and traveled to many places to talk about them. He believed in three important ideas called the "Three Principles of the People": nationalism (loving and protecting the country), democracy (giving people a voice), and peopleโs livelihood (improving everyday life).
Helping Create a New China
In 1911, major changes happened in China, and the old system of rule came to an end. In early 1912, Sun Yat-sen became the first provisional president of the Republic of China. This was an exciting moment because it marked the start of a new way of leading the country.
Even when he was not president, Sun kept working hard. He met with leaders, shared ideas, and encouraged cooperation. He believed that real change takes time and patience.
