Louis XIV

Early Life

Louis XIV was born in 1638 in France. He became king when he was only four years old, which meant adults helped rule the country for him at first.

As a child, Louis learned many skills fit for a king, such as reading, writing, dancing, and riding horses. These lessons helped him grow confident and strong.

Becoming the Sun King

When Louis grew older, he decided to rule France by himself. He believed that a king should be powerful and wise, guiding the country like the sun lights the sky.

Because of this idea, he chose the symbol of the sun and became known as the "Sun King." He wanted everyone to see France as bright and important.

The Palace of Versailles

One of Louis XIV’s greatest achievements was building the Palace of Versailles. It was a beautiful palace with shiny mirrors, gardens, and fountains.

Louis moved the royal court there and invited nobles to live near him. This helped him keep peace and order in the kingdom.

Louis XIV loved music, dance, and theater. He supported artists, writers, and musicians, helping them create amazing works.

He even danced in performances himself when he was younger. Because of him, French art and fashion became famous across Europe.

Louis XIV ruled France for 72 years, making him one of the longest-reigning kings in history. During his time, France became very powerful and well known.
