Early Life

Akira Toriyama was born on April 5, 1955, in Nagoya, Japan. As a child, he loved drawing and watching cartoons. He often practiced sketching funny characters and animals just for fun. After high school, Akira studied design and worked at an advertising company. Soon, he decided to follow his dream of becoming a manga artist.

Becoming a Manga Artist

Akira sent his drawings to a contest held by a big publishing company. Although he did not win, an editor saw his talent and encouraged him to keep trying. In 1980, he created a funny comic called Dr. Slump. It was about a silly robot girl named Arale and the strange people in her town. Kids and adults loved the humor, and the series became a big hit.

The World of Dragon Ball

A few years later, Akira created Dragon Ball, the series that made him famous around the world. The story followed a cheerful boy named Goku who loved adventure, friends, and getting stronger. The series was full of action and lessons about teamwork and never giving up. Akira’s legendary status in the world of storytelling is often compared to that of Stan Lee.
