Michelangelo Buonarroti

1475-1564

Being one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance, famous for sculptures, paintings, and buildings.

Early Life

Michelangelo Buonarroti was born in 1475 in a small town in Italy called Caprese (now called Caprese Michelangelo). When he was young, he loved drawing and carving shapes from stone. Even as a boy, people noticed that he had a special talent for art.

His family wanted him to study something else, but Michelangelo followed his heart. He moved to Florence, a city full of art and learning, where he studied with famous teachers and learned from ancient statues.

Becoming an Artist

Michelangelo worked very hard to improve his skills. He believed that art was already hidden inside stone, and his job was to set it free. This idea helped him become an amazing sculptor.

One of his most famous sculptures is **David**, a tall statue made from marble. It shows a young hero standing bravely, and many people were amazed by how real it looked. Michelangelo was only in his twenties when he made it.

Painting the Sistine Chapel

Even though Michelangelo thought of himself mainly as a sculptor, he also became a great painter. He was asked to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. At first, he did not want to do it, but he agreed.

For four years, Michelangelo painted while standing on high scaffolding close to the ceiling. He created beautiful scenes from the Bible, including the famous picture of God reaching out to touch Adamโ€™s finger. Today, millions of people visit just to see this artwork.

Architect and Thinker

Later in life, Michelangelo also worked as an architect. He helped design parts of St. Peterโ€™s Basilica, one of the largest churches in the world. His ideas influenced how buildings were made for many years.

Michelangelo believed that learning never stopped. He kept drawing, studying, and creating art until he was very old.

Legacy

Michelangelo died in 1564, but his art is still loved today. He showed the world how powerful creativity and hard work can be. His life teaches us to follow our passions and never give up, even when something feels difficult.
