A Guitar in Naples

Dominic David Fike was born in Naples, Florida, on December 30, 1995, and grew up with Filipino, Haitian, and African American roots. Music was part of family life even when childhood was unsettled: his mother introduced him to hip-hop and bought his first guitar, and his father showed him a few chords. Fike then used online videos to teach himself more, practicing until he could turn ideas into songs.

As a teenager, he joined friends in Naples who rapped, produced beats, and performed together. He started putting his own recordings on SoundCloud, blending guitar-driven pop and rock with hip-hop rhythms instead of choosing only one style.

A Demo Becomes a Breakthrough

In 2016, Fike faced legal trouble and was sentenced to house arrest, a consequence that limited where he could go. He kept writing and recording with simple equipment, and one of the songs that emerged was “3 Nights,” built around a bright guitar pattern and an easy-to-remember chorus.

Fike later spent time in jail after violating probation, and record-label interest grew while he was still there. After his release, Columbia Records signed him and reissued Don’t Forget About Me, Demos in 2018. The EP introduced listeners to “3 Nights” and “Babydoll,” but the sudden attention also brought pressure to prove that a handful of home recordings could become a lasting career.

Albums and a New Kind of Stage

Fike released his first studio album, What Could Possibly Go Wrong, on July 31, 2020. Its quick changes between singing, rapping, guitars, and electronic production showed why one label never fully describes his music. He also collaborated with other musicians, including Justin Bieber and Paul McCartney, and his credited work on the deluxe edition of Bieber’s Justice shared a 2022 Grammy nomination for album of the year.

In 2022, Fike tried another kind of storytelling when he played Elliot in the second season of HBO’s Euphoria. It was his first major acting role, and he performed music in the series as well, connecting skills he had built onstage and in recording studios with work for a television camera.

Florida Stories and New Work

Fike’s second studio album, Sunburn, arrived on July 7, 2023, and looked back toward Florida, family memories, mistakes, and growing up. That year he also released “Mona Lisa” for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack, showing how his songs could travel into another kind of visual story.

After a break, he released the 12-track project Rocket on August 22, 2025. Fike has spoken publicly about addiction, treatment, and the work of staying healthier, an important reminder that success does not remove personal struggles and that asking for help matters. His wider contribution is a flexible approach to creativity: he moves among pop, rock, hip-hop, acting, and soundtrack work while turning difficult experiences into music that is direct, melodic, and recognizably his own.
