Early Life

Lang Lang was born on June 14, 1982, in Shenyang, China. His father was a musician who played a traditional Chinese instrument called the erhu, and he encouraged Lang Lang to explore music. When Lang Lang was about 3 years old, he saw a cartoon featuring piano music and decided he wanted to learn to play.

He began piano lessons at a very young age and practiced every day. Lang Lang worked hard and showed great talent. By the time he was 9, he moved to Beijing to study at the Central Conservatory of Music, one of Chinaโ€™s top music schools.
