Before Jenna Ortega became the serious, quick-thinking Wednesday Addams on television, she was a California child learning how a camera could turn practice into a story. Jenna Marie Ortega was born on September 27, 2002, in California's Coachella Valley. She is one of six children and has Mexican and Puerto Rican family roots. She began acting professionally at about age nine, first appearing in small television parts and commercials.

The role also made Wednesday canonically Mexican American, connecting the character with Ortega's own heritage.

Recognition and a Growing Career

Ortega's performance brought major recognition in 2023. The Television Academy nominated her for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, while the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild also nominated her. In 2024, she joined Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara in the fantasy comedy Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, playing Astrid, the daughter of Lydia Deetz.
